Professional Pest Controller (PPC) is the official trade magazine of the British Pest Control Association and produces the printed showguides for its flagship events, PestEx and PPC Live, providing essential exhibitor listings, seminar programmes and event information for attendees.
Alongside the main magazine, I am responsible for the entire design process of PPC event showguides, transforming raw event and exhibitor content through to finished, print‑ready publications.
I brief information from the events team and exhibitors and independently structure and design complex content, including exhibitor listings, session schedules, speaker profiles and critical event information. Each showguide brings challenges due to the volume and accuracy required, with visual elements such as floorplans, timetables and listings needing to be clear, consistent and meticulously formatted.
The showguide is the final embodiment of the event’s visual identity, combining all prior promotional work into a cohesive publication that captures the atmosphere and purpose of the show, even for those who were unable to attend. The showguide shares its design assets with the exhibition graphics, emails and promotional materials, with most visuals created from scratch in Illustrator to maintain consistency, supported by carefully selected, responsibly sourced stock where required.
These showguides are physically handled by 2000 attendees at each event and further circulate 6000 readers who may not have attended as part of the main magazine.
