Role: Sole Designer

Timespan: Dec 2024 – Present
British Pest Control Association (BPCA) is a leading voice in the public health sector and representative of the industry in the UK. This includes Professional Pest Controller (PPC), their official trade magazine, which provides technical guidance, industry news, and business insights for UK pest management professionals.
In December 2024, their designer stepped down, and I took responsibility of the design of the magazine. This was the first time the magazine had been produced completely in-house. It started as a huge change for me; bigger than any challenge I had faced before in my design career. I take each edition from raw text documents to fully realised and exceptionally technical magazine spreads.
I collaborate with the editorial team to interpret content, source technically accurate imagery, and create layouts that balance creativity with the magazine’s professional and highly technical nature. I lead all aspects of design within the established brand and style guidelines, using Photoshop and Illustrator for image work before assembling each issue in InDesign.
I oversee the entire production process through to print, liaising directly with printers to ensure accuracy and quality. Now working on my seventh issue, I have significantly strengthened my understanding of print–digital relationships and developed a more purposeful, refined design approach that goes beyond aesthetics to enhance clarity, structure, and reader engagement.
During my time as designer, PPC was awarded ‘Magazine of the Year’ by the Trade Association Forum in February 2026 (read more).
I have included a collection of my favourite spreads and all links to the full editions below, where you can also view the cover images for each issue.
